Design Concept

The Tornek-Rayville CISO M38 was designed and developed in collaboration with MAC V SOG veterans of the Special Operation Association (SOA) as an enduring testament to their incredible skill, exemplary ethos, and astonishing accomplishments. Available to the general public and SOA members alike a portion of the purchase price from each watch is donated to the SOA, a pioneering non-profit founded in secret in 1976 to support the SOG veterans. Their fellow members were the only ones that they could talk to about their experiences in a covert war. The organization continues to empower these veterans and their families to meet the challenges of the past, present, and future.

The watch gets its name from the Counterinsurgency Support Office that issued the original SOG Seiko 6119 that inspired Tornek-Rayville’s modern recreation, and the watch's slightly larger 38 mm diameter. Developed and manufactured with modern techniques and materials the CISO M38 features a sapphire box crystal, all-stainless-steel construction, solid end-link bracelet, luminous dials and hands, automatic mechanical movement, and screw-down crown and case back providing 100 meters water resistance. Series 1 of the CISO M38 will be produced as a limited run of 500 units.

The Dial & Hands

In a show of support and nod to its once secret origins "SOA" is printed in a subdued gray. The matte black dial features Grade X C3 Super-LumiNova® (green emission) italicized Arabic indices that have been customized to preserve the wabi sabi of the vintage hand wrought font. A second dial variant features the MAC V SOG logo at the 9 o'clock position. The fully polished custom baton hands with center-line longitudinal facet are equipped with luminous fill for legibility in all conditions.

The Case

A mirror polished 316L stainless steel case features a screw down caseback and crown that contributes to a water resistance of 100 meters—a substantial improvement over the vintage plated brass case.

Case Back Engraving

“You haven’t lived until you’ve almost died…’ — MAC V SOG ‘64-’72” is engraved in the style of the Vietnam era Zippos lighters. The text references the beginning of the SOG motto which was selected by the SOG men to capture the essence of the thrill of surviving a mission "across the fence" and bonds of brotherhood forged in this secret war.

Day-Date Indicator

Custom printed dual language (English/Roman numeral) day indicator. When weather wasn’t an issue, recon missions could last up to a week and the Roman numerals used to track the number of days spent in the AO. Back in the relative safety of the FOB or Saigon, the day indicator could be switched back to English.

Other Features

The Crystal -  Double-domed sapphire box crystal with interior anti-reflective coating only. The crystal sits proud of the bezel in a nod to the vintage acrylic crystal.

The Movement -  Inside the CISO M38 is a Made in Japan TMI NH36 with custom printed day/date wheels, quickset day/date, hacking seconds, automatic and manual winding capabilities. Each movement is tested and regulated in the USA.

The Bracelet - The bracelet features solid end-links equipped with captive quick release spring bars, a dual-push button clasp with the Tornek-Rayville insignia engraved on the cover.

Maratac Nylon 20mm Single Pass Strap - An upgrade from the fabric straps originally issued to SOG, this Maratac nylon strap is robust, durable, easy to replace, and will not stretch when wet.
